High School Seniors Sought for National Youth Science Camp® Honors
(Frankfort) - Governor Beshear has appointed Aristófanes Cedeño, Executive Director of the Governor's Scholars Program, to serve as Kentucky's selection coordinator for the 2010 National Youth Science Camp (NYSC). Two high school seniors will receive a full scholarship to exchange ideas with scientists and other professionals from the academic and corporate worlds. The nearly month-long experience includes lectures and hands-on research projects presented by scientists from across the nation; overnight expeditions into the National Forest; and a visit to Washington D.C. The selected delegates must not only demonstrate academic achievement in science, but also show potential for thoughtful scientific leadership.
The NYSC experience is offered at no cost to its participants, so that selected delegates may attend regardless of their financial status. Contributions to the National Youth Science Foundation® allow delegates to participate in this "once in a lifetime" experience. Educational and recreational programming, as well as meals, lodging, and round-trip air passage on scheduled airlines are provided free of charge.
Delegates arrive in Charleston, West Virginia, on Tuesday, June 29, and depart on Friday, July 23, 2010. The NYSC is held near Bartow in the eastern mountains of West Virginia, within the Monongahela National Forest. Application forms are available on the NYSC website at www.nysc.org/2010 and must be submitted directly to Kentucky's selection coordinator at the following address:

The GSP website needs YOU!
We are currently in the process of revamping the GSP website. One exciting new feature will be the Alumni Testimonials section, in which we will feature various alum's descriptions of the scholar experience and the benefits of participating in GSP. Our hope is that hearing from enthusiastic alumni will help potential applicants better understand what it means to be a Governor's Scholar. To contribute material for possible inclusion in the website, please send your testimonial-- a few sentences or a few paragraphs-- to Jerri Roberts.
2009 Scholars: Brown Fellows Program Applications Online
The Brown Fellows Program is designed to provide a diverse group of students with the opportunity to develop extraordinary leadership skills through academic enrichment, expanded opportunity, and personal accountability. Each student selected as a Brown Fellow will work with an on-campus Program Mentor to develop his or her own Leadership Project. This project will incorporate the Fellow's academic and research interests and will span his or her collegiate career.
The Brown Fellows Program experience begins with a group trip to an international destination during the summer preceding your first year of college. Once each Brown Fellow returns from the leadership immersion trip, he or she will identify and pursue individualized enrichment opportunities pertaining to his or her Leadership Project. The Fellow will engage in enrichment activities-- which may take the form of national or international research, leadership, and/or civic engagement-- during the summers following the first, second, and third years of college. The Brown Fellows Program will fund these enrichment opportunities as well as the full cost of college attendance (including tuition, room and board, and associated fees).
To be eligible to become a Brown Fellow, high school seniors must have demonstrated a capacity for intellectual leadership and also have an interest in attending Centre College or the University of Louisville.
