Dear 2011 Governor's Scholars,

As you were preparing to leave campus this past summer, many of you enthusiastically expressed your desire to help the Program in any way possible. Well, here's your opportunity! As you know, the vast majority of the funding that makes GSP possible comes from Governor Beshear and the Kentucky State Legislature. In order to ensure that our funding will continue—and, thus, that the Program will continue—we need to remind all of our legislators of just how important the Governor's Scholars Program really is. To this end, we're asking you to join us in Frankfort on Tuesday, February 14th, as we spend a day with our elected officials in our state's Capitol.

GSP Legislative Day activities will begin in the Capitol Rotunda at 8:00 a.m. and should conclude around 3:00 p.m. If you are able to join us, you will be attending various Senate and House of Representatives committee meetings, supporting GSP Administrators’ testimony before the Senate and House Appropriations & Revenue committees, observing a session of the General Assembly, and possibly even having a photograph taken with Governor Beshear. In short, this is your opportunity to immerse yourself in our state's legislative process even as you act as an ambassador for the Governor's Scholars Program.

Because we want to make a great impression on every single elected official, it is extremely important that we have scholars from all around the Commonwealth join us at the capitol on Tuesday, February 14th. As a result, we need you to return the response form ASAP to let us know if you'll be able to attend. The absolute deadline to RSVP is Monday, January 30th. Once we know that you're coming, we'll be sending you more information including directions to the capitol and a specific schedule of the day's events. Of course, we'll also be happy to send a letter to your school to request that your absence from class on Tuesday, February 14th be excused.
